I am making games at 608 Games, Madison, Wisconsin. It’s a lot of work and I am hoping with working at OM and going to school, I can keep up. I am learning new things regarding 3D Modelling and while I can’t show you the art that I am doing for our game, I can show you the art that I am doing for school and the things I do from the tutorials that I do. I am still working at collecting things for my reel and then I’ll have to figure out how to do the reel itself.

Snow sucks. Ok maybe it was pretty, but the first snowfall usually catches me unprepared. I am a chicken shit when driving in this crap.

The Master Sword

I am building The Master Sword in Maya 2011. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about you need to play more games. It’s you know…the “Sword of Time”? The sword in the Zelda series games? Oh well, whatever…I’m building it. I found a nice Maya tutorial on YouTube from some guy named Omar, and it’s been going pretty well. I have learned quite a bit just doing the little amount that I have done so far. Although the sword has been rendered many different ways, this image is really close to the style that I am working towards.

My sword doesn’t look as good as Omar’s does, but it’s not bad for a nooby. This is a picture of the endcap which took me about four hours to do.

And after about 12 hours, I finally got the handle done. It looks like the hilt wont be that hard to do, but of course that is what I thought about the endcap. Stay tuned for more progress pictures.

Things that I have learned so far doing this project: Bracing, Proper Topology, Duplicating on a Path and Smoothing Techniques.

My First Unity3d Project.

I am attempting to learn Unity3d (http://unity3d.com/) to make a simple game. Yes, this is a project that I want to finish before December. One of the first places that I tried looking for training was on YouTube. I found this site: “Training that Wont Cost you a Dime by Jason Welsh”. It’s actually pretty nice site. He offers classes in Unity, Blender, Maya, Z-Brush and many others. Currently this is where I am right now. I haven’t incorporated any of my original ideas yet, but I am learning quite a bit. In this segment I learned how to make a simple First Person Controller, a Player Spawn Point, a Death Zone, a Gun Spawn, and a Health bar. It sounds pretty simple and probably easy to many of my classmates, but this is quite an accomplishment for me.

Here is a screenshot of where I am right now. The cool thing about this guy, is that he goes through many of the scripts that he uses with the tutorial and I actually understand what the heck he is saying. Game Programming 1 wasn’t a waste of time after all.

The big green bar is my health bar, the little balls are the bullets the sentry gun is shooting at me.

Black Beans and Brown Rice

6 Serving

INGREDIENTS

4 c. of Black Beans
2 c. of Brown Rice
1 c. of Chicken or Vegetable Broth
1/4 c. Chopped Onions
1/4 c. Chopped Red Peppers
1 cob of Roasted Sweet Corn
1 Jalapeno Pepper
Sour Cream
Chopped Tomato

PREPARATION

In a medium sauce pan, put 1/2 c. of Chicken Broth, the Chopped Onion, Chopped Red Pepper, the Jalapeno Pepper and let simmer for ten minutes until the onion is tender.
In a food processor, add half of the Black Beans, and the other half of the Chicken Broth. Pulse until a smooth paste.
Add the Black Bean paste, Roasted Corn and the other half of the Black Beans to the Chicken Broth, Pepper and Onion mixture, and let heat for about ten minutes while stirring so it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. Make sure to salt and pepper to taste.
Take off Heat, let sit for about five minutes.
Serve with a tablespoon of sour cream and chopped tomato to garnish.
